Turkey - Factors to Watch on May 18
ISTANBUL, May 18 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday.
The lira stood at 3.6000 against the U.S. dollar at 0551 GMT, weakening from 3.5695 at Wednesday's close.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year bond was at 10.67 percent in spot trade on Wednesday and rose to 10.70 percent in Thursday-dated trade.
The main BIST 100 share index fell 0.45 percent to 95,724.95 points on Wednesday.
Asian stocks fell on Thursday and the dollar was stuck near six-month lows against a basket of currencies as uncertainty mounted over U.S. President Donald Trump's future following reports that he tried to interfere with a federal investigation. Equities in Asia took cues from Wall Street, where the Dow and S&P 500 both sank about 1.8 percent overnight following reports that Trump tried to influence a federal probe. ERDOGAN ON TRUMP TALKS
President Tayyip Erdogan told U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Washington this week that Turkey would act "without asking anyone" if it faced any sort of attack from the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, Turkish media reported on Thursday. WASHINGTON BRAWL
The United States said on Wednesday it was voicing its "strongest possible" concern to Turkey over a street brawl that erupted between protesters and Turkish security personnel during President Erdogan's visit to Washington, D.C. ERDOGAN PROGRAMME
President Erdogan will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Binali Yildirim at the presidential palace (0800 GMT). He will also attend a consultative council meeting of the TUSIAD business group in Istanbul (1300 GMT).
Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci will attend a news conference concerning a report on Turkish exporters' trends (0730 GMT).
Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli will attend a CEO Club meeting in Istanbul (0700 GMT).
CONSUMER CONFIDENCE The Turkish Statistics Institute will announce consumer confidence data for May (0700 GMT).
