Torex: ELG Mine Workers Vote To Return To Work

Kitco News

Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TSX: TXG) says that a majority of its employees have voted to return to work at the El Limon-Guajes Mine immediately. The company says it organized an off-site secret-ballot vote Thursday for its 520 employees who are eligible to join a union, thereby letting them “speak for themselves.” Since early November, the mine has been blockaded in a union dispute. The company says that in its election, 99% of the 274 unionized employees who voted were in favor of lifting the blockade. “Our thanks go out to the hundreds of individuals who have stepped up and publicly illustrated that the company is making a meaningful contribution to society and that they are proud to be a part of that journey,” says Fred Stanford, president and chief executive officer. He adds, “We would hope that these outside unions keep their political actions to the political arenas, and let the employees get on with their lives and go back to work.”
