Opawica Explorations (TSX-V OPW) is active in Canada's top gold mining jurisdiction, Quebec, and the top up-and-coming exploration jurisdiction, Newfoundland Labrador.

Company director Christopher Reynolds spoke to Kitco on Thursday.

Opawica is a junior Canadian exploration company with a strong portfolio of precious and base metal properties within the Rouyn-Noranda region of the Abitibi Gold Belt in Québec and Newfoundland.

Canada's biggest gold mine is based in Quebec: Canada Malartic, and the top exploration story of the past 12 months has been Newfoundland. Until recently, Canada's easternmost province had been overlooked, but the province saw a rush of exploration with outstanding drill results being announced.

"Newfoundland is interesting because the geological model wasn't that well understood," said Reynolds. "A lot of academics now writing about it. It's been the subject of tremendous wealth generation."
