New York City (Kitco News) - "I will never apologize for protecting the safety and security of the American people,” President Barack Obama told attendees of the Clinton Global Initiative, Tuesday afternoon.
With no mention of the airstrikes the United States and several Arab nations carried out earlier Tuesday against the Islamic militant group ISIS in Syria, Obama stated that although it may cause friction, the United States will not stop standing up for the rights of people. “We reiterated, 'we will not stop'”
"We remember the words of Dr. King, 'the time is always right to do the right thing,'" he told CGI attendees seated in the Metropolitan ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Times Square.

Among this year’s scheduled attendees at CGI are actor Matt Damon; Mary Barra, chief executive officer of General Motors; John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems Inc.; and Jack Ma, executive chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. None of the prospective 2016 Republican presidential candidates are on the program. Nor are two Democrats who may be contenders if Clinton does not run -- Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Also absent at the CGI is any mention of a possible presidential run by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. During his speech, Obama stressed how one of the best decisions he made as President was his selection of Clinton as Secretary of State. The annual meeting is the tenth in the series and concludes Wednesday.
