Barrick Reports Cyanide Restrictions At Veladero Facility

Kitco News

Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE, TSX: ABX) reports that the provincial government of San Juan in Argentina has temporarily restricted the addition of cyanide to the Veladero mine’s heap leach facility, pending verification that remedial work is completed. The company says it is working to complete remediation “as quickly as possible.” Earlier this week, the monitoring system at Veladero detected a rupture of a pipe carrying gold-bearing solution on the leach pad, Barrick says. The company reports that all solution was contained within the operating site and none reached any diversion channels or watercourses. The company says it promptly notified San Juan provincial authorities, who inspected the site. “At this time, we do not anticipate a material impact to Veladero’s 2017 production guidance,” Barrick adds.
