Harmony Wins Court Ruling Over Industrial Action

Kitco News

Harmony Gold Mining Co. Ltd. (NYSE: HMY; JSE: HAR) reports that the company has secured a Labor Court of South Africa ruling that declares that an ongoing industrial action at Kusasalethu to be unprotected and requiring employees to return to work. An industrial action had occurred despite various labor agreements reached with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, Harmony says. Despite the ruling on Friday, no employees reported for work over the weekend or on Monday, the company says. An ultimatum was issued to Kusasalethu employees to return to work Tuesday night, with failure to subject them to disciplinary action. The company says approximately seven to 10 days of gold production have been lost since March 21.
