How would invest $100k in 2018?

Half in “the best of the best”: top tier outperformers
Half in “speculative plays”

What are some names of the top tier performers?
Randgold, Franco Nevada, Wheaton Precious Metals, Agnico Eagle.

Would you put any money in lower-tier miners?

“In the intermediates, look at the people with very strong cash flow coming in 2018,” Rule said, “B2 [Gold] would be a name”

What is your outlook on gold?

Rule said he sees gold as a fundamental investment and insurance for your portfolio. As a speculative play, with the market trapped in a months-long narrow trading range, the yellow metal is not very exciting.

What are your thoughts on bitcoin?

“[Bitcoin] probably has [had a negative impact on gold], but my belief is that you pay attention to more important things like the business’ ability to generate cash as well as performance that exceeds expectation,” he said. “The more people pay attention to stuff that doesn’t matter, the better the chance some old guy like me has to compete.”

Additional thoughts?

“We are entering a market that I think is going to surprise a lot of people to the upside, both in terms of the best of the best and also the highest quality juniors,” he said.
