Iamgold Corp. (TSX: IMG; NYSE: IAG) is upbeat about the second phase of its 2017 drilling program at the Saramacca project near the Rosebel Gold Mine in Suriname, reporting some high-grade intersections. After an initial resource estimate last year, the company completed an additional 97 diamond drill holes totaling 24,282 meters. One highlight of an infill program was 46 meters grading 11.73 grams per tonne of gold. Among expansion drill holes, highlights included 15 meters grading 22.90 g/t gold and 10.5 meters grading 22.48 g/t gold. “We are currently incorporating these results in an updated resource model, which when coupled with the ongoing engineering studies, is expected to allow us to upgrade the project to a reserve status in 2018,” says Craig MacDougall, senior vice president for exploration. “As we have previously stated, we are continuing to advance towards production in 2019.” The 2018 exploration program will include some 50,000 meters of drilling, the company adds.
