What Else Is Gold? A Gold Hair Dryer Hits The Market
(Kitco News) - For all gold lovers out there, Dyson has released a new 23.75-karat gold-plated Supersonic hair dryer, upping the ante for all things gold.
This unique product comes with a price tag of $500, which is just $100 more than the original gold-less model.
Dyson did not make a big deal out of Wednesday’s release, quietly publishing an exclusive video on its website, showing how the gold leaves are artfully applied to each hair dryer.
In the video, master gilder Karen Haslewood is shown preparing the gold leaves and hand gilding them onto the back cover of the hair dryers, which has been purposefully painted red.
Each new hair dryer is fitted with five gold leaves that are 0.1 microns thick and need to be hand glided onto each Supersonic hair dryer.
“Hand gilded in gold leaf, the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer 23.75 karat gold perfectly blends engineering precision with artisan craft,” Dyson said on its website.
The red primer color, which is behind the gold leaves was specifically chosen for this model, according to Dyson, which noted that “it is intended to reveal some of its color over time, giving each gold leafed face a distinctive patina that is unique to its owner.”
The gold used for the new product is sourced from Florence, Italy, and is known for its “color and luster”.
“At approximately 333 atoms thick, each leaf is incredibly delicate and must be applied by hand. Five leaves are used on each product, which are then brushed together to form a smooth, even finish,” Dyson said.
Each hair dryer comes in a red box, which matches the same red color used as the primer for the hair dryers.
