One Man's Journey From The NFL To Multi-Million Dollar CEO

(Kitco News) - After living out what would be many people’s dream of playing for the National Football League, Cameron Colvin left the San Francisco 49ers to pursue his dream of being an entrepreneur.

Being inspired by the likes of Phil Knight, Colvin said he was always more drawn to the business side of football than actually playing.

“As an athlete, I looked at myself as a business. And when I did that, I started getting opportunities and I hired people to work directly with me. And once I started hiring people, the ideas started to come, different mentors started to come,” Colvin said.

Colvin went from a rookie in the NFL to president of his multi-million dollar firm, CamCo Commercial Inc and Rise Above Enterprises Dev.

He sat down with Kitco’s Daniela Cambone to talk about lessons learned.

It’s good to be diversified, no matter what your primary investment is, he told Kitco News.

“E-sports is the new big thing right now. It is a multi-billion dollar industry. So we're heavily invested in the industry right now. We have quick service restaurants. You’ve got your gold, you’ve got your cannabis space, as well as health and wellness,” he said.

To succeed, Colvin invested in the people around him.

“Invest in the people. You can always create a business structure, you can always understand the market. Investing in the people is the biggest thing and seeing how they operate and what drives them,” Colvin shared.

When asked about the next hot real estate investment, Colvin’s advice was to buy raw land.

“You can never go wrong with raw land. We can hold it and either lease it to another party or we can just build and create something,” he said.
