McEwen Mining Inc.(NYSE, TSX: MUX) reports that a fatal at the Gold Bar Mine in Nevada on Monday appears to have been triggered by a medical emergency. The company says an investigation by local authorities is not complete, but its own preliminary analysis suggests a truck driver may have suffered a medical emergency while operating a haul truck prior, thus losing control, running up an embankment and overturning. The driver was found within minutes by another truck driver, who immediately called for assistance, McEwen says. The section of haul road around the accident site remains closed during the investigation. Mine operations, such as crushing and stacking on the heap leach pad, resumed on Tuesday, drawing on available stockpiles of ore, McEwen says. Workers at the Gold Bar Mine continue to ramp up operations, aiming for commercial production during the second quarter.
