Technological Breakthrough Slashes Lithium Production Costs
A "closely guarded" innovation has reduced lithium production costs to a record low, reported the South China Morning Post last week.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences made the discovery after 15-years of research. The process involves electronic and membrane filtering treatments. Lithium often comes with magnesium, and the two elements can be tightly bound, which makes production expensive.
Qinghai Lithium Industry told the South China Morning Post that the company increased its profit margin by 50% in the past three years since using the new process.
