A 21st Century Commodity Breathes Life Into A 700 Year-Old Mine
Wayne Tisdale, head of 21C Metals, is looking for cobalt in an old European copper mine.
Tisdale spoke to Kitco at the Palisade Global Hard Assets Conference on Jekyll Island, Georgia last month.
Tisdale said the mine, which is located on the Czech and German border, was first worked in the 1300s. Headframes were put on the mine in the 1800s and 1900s, and 550,000 tonnes was mined in the 1950s. The mine closed later in the late 1900s, except for some local university students who used the mine to learn how to map.
The area was reassembled into a 16,000 hectare land package, and 21C started drilling the property in February.
Listen to the audio. Tisdale details how mining deals come together. He also has a long history in mining and recalls the industry in the last half of the 1900s.Photo of Tisova project is located on the Czech/German compliments of 21C Metals
