Iamgold Reports Discoveries From Monster Lake Drill Program
(Kitco News) - Iamgold Corp. (TSX: IMG; NYSE: IAG) discovered ”local high-grade intervals carrying visible gold” during a winter drilling program completed at the Monster Lake joint venture, the company reported Tuesday.
The project, half owned by Iamgold and half by TomaGold Corp., is located 50 kilometers southwest of Chibougamau in Quebec. Iamgold reported assay results from 16 drill holes totaling 5,270 meters.
Highlights in the Annie Shear Zone system include 0.8 meters grading 357 grams per tonne gold; 6.8 meters grading 3.85 g/t gold, including one section with 1.67 meters at 6.43 gold; and 0.5 meter grading 133.0 g/t gold. At the Big Mama Shear Zone area, results included 13 meters grading 2.27 g/t Au gold, including 1.39 meters at 6.45 and 1.47 meters at 7.65.
Officials said all of the areas targeted in this program were best accessed during the winter when the ground is frozen.
“This drilling program has yielded positive results from the Big Mama and Annie areas, which included the intersection of some local high-grade intervals carrying visible gold,” said Craig MacDougall, senior vice president for exploration for Iamgold. “These positive results continue to demonstrate the potential for the discovery of additional mineralized shoots along the Monster Lake structural corridor.”
