Fortuna Silver Mines Reports Fatal Accident

(Kitco News) - One man has died in an accident at Fortuna Silver Mine's (NYSE: FSM, TSX: FVI) San Jose mine in Oaxaca, Mexico. Operations  have been temporally suspended the company said in a press release Monday.

According to the company, the fatal accident involved a scooptram driver in the underground mine. The company said that appropriate government and local authorities were immediately notified and an investigation into the accident has been initiated to determine the cause.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident at our mine, and our thoughts are with the family, friends and co-workers of our colleague, to whom we are offering our support at this difficult time,” said Jorge Ganoza, president and CEO of Fortuna in a press release. “The health and safety of our workers at our mine sites is our highest priority, and an investigation is underway to determine how this happened.”
