IAMGOLD restarts Rosebel

Kitco News

IAMGOLD said today that mining started over the weekend in the northern pits of the company's Rosebel Gold Mine after close coordination with Suriname officials.

Work also resumed on the Saramacca road construction. Milling and production has been ongoing.

IAMGOLD said active mining operations in the southern pits, along with mine development activities at Saramacca site, are suspended. Saramacca's target of nominal production in Q4 is not impacted.

Earlier this month Iamgold announced that it suspended mining activities at its Rosebel property in Suriname after one unauthorized miner died following an incident with local police.

There was little detail on the altercation. The company said that police were responding to unauthorized artisanal mining within the Rosebel concession.
