Greenland initiates permitting consultation on massive Kvanefjeld project

(Kitco News) - Local media reported today that the Government of Greenland initiated public consultation on the proposed Greenland Minerals’ Kvanefjeld rare earths and uranium mine project.
On December 17, the Naalakkersuisut (Government of Greenland) approved the initiation of the public consultation on the Environmental Impact Assessment report and the Social Impact Assessment report on Greenland Minerals' rare earths and uranium project at Kuannersuit.
The consultation period starts on December 18, 2020 and ends on March 12, 2021.
Kvanefjeld is a large-scale project with the potential to become one of the most significant western world producers of rare earths and uranium.
Mineral resource estimates have been established at three locations within the project area: Kvanefjeld, Sørensen, and Zone 3. Each resource represents outcropping, or near-surface expressions, of the lujavrite seam. To date, over a billion tonnes of mineral resources have been established. The resource contains one of the largest inventories of rare earth elements and uranium globally (11.1 million tonnes of rare earth oxide, 593 million pounds U3O8).
