Is the planet running out of silver? How will demand be met? Randy Smallwood answers

Kitco News

Silver’s fundamentals continue to lead those of gold, said Randy Smallwood, CEO of Wheaton Precious Metals.

“You’re always going to find silver in anything that relates to mobility, all the way from electric vehicles, to smart phones,” Smallwood said.

While reserves around the world are diminishing, silver is mined as a by-product of other base metals, and as prices in these base metals tick upward, more capital should flow into the exploration of these metals, Smallwood said.

Smallwood joined the Association for Mineral Exploration’s Remote Roundup in January and spoke about the importance and valuation of ESG practices in investment decisions. According to Smallwood, it’s not about meeting standards, it’s about exceeding standards. He believes provenance will be a key component in why consumers and investors will be willing to pay a potential ESG premium.
