(Kitco News) - McEwen Mining (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) reported today that activities at its El Gallo project in Mexico have been restored following successful resolution of the concerns raised by members of the nearby communities.

The company said that a new 10-year agreement has been reached providing additional support to the communities and greater long-term certainty for the El Gallo operation.

The El Gallo complex is located in Mexico’s Sinaloa State, along the foothills of the Sierra Madres Occidental mountain range, with a property package including over 1,700 square kilometers of mineral claims. The El Gallo mine achieved first gold pour in September 2012 and commercial production in January 2013.

McEwen Mining is a diversified gold and silver producer and explorer focused in the Americas with operating mines in Nevada, Canada, Mexico and Argentina. It also owns a large copper deposit in Argentina.
