Canada's pandemic response is an 'unmitigated disaster' - Kevin O'Leary
(Kitco News) The Canadian government's management of the pandemic has been a "disaster, said Kevin O'Leary, chairman of O'Shares ETFs and star of Shark Tank.
"There are countries like Canada, which have been a disaster in managing. If you're in Canada right now, you can't get a second shot. The economy is completely shut down. To see a G7 country like Canada in that situation tells you there's still a risk," O'Leary told Michelle Makori, editor-in-chief of Kitco News.
Canada is about one year behind the U.S. right now because of how it handled the COVID-19 crisis.
"The country is poorly managed. The COVID pandemic showed the weakness of Canadian management. The country is an unmitigated disaster," O'Leary said. "I feel sorry for people that are trying to do business there. The fact that you have to go to prison to visit the country in a place where there are no HEPA filters, where people are locked in rooms with no air filtration. You could die there."
O' Leary has not just been a vocal critic of the Trudeau administration. He did briefly attempt to take over the "management" of Canada. In 2017, he campaigned to be the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. He was a frontrunner in the polls during much of that time but dropped out in April 2017, citing a lack of support in Quebec one month before the election. When asked whether he may run again, O' Leary said, "I never say never to anything."
For O'Leary, the number one risk this year remains the COVID-19 pandemic. To find out why, watch the video above.
