Copper production in Chile falls 1% in May - report

(Kitco News) - According to a report by the Chilean state copper commission Cochilco released on Friday, the domestic copper production in May 2021 was 487,200 tonnes, which is 1% less compared to 492,300 tonnes of copper mined in May 2020.

Escondida, the world’s largest copper mine, produced 84,800 tonnes of copper in May 2021, a 9% decline compared to May 2020 (93,400 tonnes).

Collahuasi, the world’s second largest copper mine, produced 57,900 tonnes of copper in May 2021, which is 4% less compared to 60,100 tonnes of copper mined in May 2020.

Cochilco said that Codelco, the largest copper mining company worldwide, produced 6% more copper in May 2021 versus the same month last year to 152,500 tonnes.
