Peru's mining industry expands 0.42% in October - report
(Kitco News) - The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics of Peru (INEI) announced today that the domestic mining and hydrocarbons sector expanded by 1.37% in October 2021 compared to the same month of 2020.
INEI said that this positive result was driven by higher output recorded in the domestic metallic mining subsector, which grew 0.42% on the back of increased production of iron (9.8%), gold (6.7%), copper (2.7%), molybdenum (2.2%) and silver (1.5%); offset by a decline in zinc (-15.2%), tin (-8.4%) and lead (-4.4%) outputs.
Importantly, INEI added that the domestic hydrocarbons subsector expanded 7.24% in October, due to the higher extraction of crude oil (17.0%), natural gas (8.8%) and natural gas liquids (1.3%).
