Silver production in Peru down 9.6% in February 2022, ministry says
(Kitco News) - According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), silver production in Peru, the world’s third largest silver producing country, was 242,849 kg in February 2022, a decline of 9.6% compared to 268,732 kg mined in February 2021.
MINEM said that this decrease was mainly due to the lower silver production volume reported by Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (-21.7%) and Minera Chinalco Perú S.A. (-12.7%).
At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. was the largest silver producer in Peru accounting for 17.1% share of the country’s total silver production, followed by Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (8.6%) and Volcan Compañía Minera S.A.A. (7.3%).
At the regional level, Áncash maintained its first position accounting for 21.3% of Peru’s total silver production, followed by Pasco (19.0%) and Junín (16.3%).
