(Kitco News) - Rock Tech Lithium CEO Dirk Harbecke plans to build lithium conversion plants in the heart of Europe's automotive industry: Germany.
Harbecke was interviewed by Kitco Mining Audiences Manager Michael McCrae in February at the BMO Global Metals, Mining & Critical Minerals Conference.
The company aims to be a lithium hydroxide supplier to the battery and automotive industries. To that end, Rock Tech Lithium (CVE:RCK) plans to construct up to five lithium converters in Germany by 2030.
Harbecke sees downstream opportunities from this significant investment.
"This is where we see the bottlenecks in the lithium industry," said Harbecke. "We are convinced that we need western supply chains. We need a regional supply of lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate in Europe and in North America."
The company is also advancing its Georgia Lake lithium project in Ontario. A pre-feasibility on the project was completed last year.
