(Kitco News) - Major zinc producer Nexa Resources (NYSE: NEXA) announced on Tuesday that its Cerro Lindo mine in Peru has resumed operations and the road access has been restored.

However, the company said that some drainage systems are still being repaired, adding that the plant is currently operating according to its production plan, 17ktpd, while the underground mine dewatering process is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed within 15 days.

Importantly, Nexa noted that the 1Q23 production loss is expected to be recovered in the upcoming quarters; the 2023 guidance remains unchanged as of today.

On March 16, the company reported that production at Cerro Lindo was suspended due to “unusual heavy rainfall levels” and overflowing rivers caused by Cyclone Yaku, which affected the region as well as other parts of the country.

Nexa is a large-scale integrated zinc producer with over 60 years of experience developing and operating mining and smelting assets in Latin America. Nexa currently owns and operates five long-life underground mines - three located in the Central Andes of Peru and two located in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil - and is ramping up the Aripuanã mine as its sixth underground mine in Mato Grosso, Brazil.

Nexa was among the top five producers of mined zinc globally in 2022 and one of the top five metallic zinc producers worldwide in 2022, according to Wood Mackenzie.
