(Kitco News) - According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), silver production in Peru, the world’s third largest silver producing country, was 239,989 kg in March 2023, down 2% compared to 244,922 kg mined in March 2022.

MINEM said that this negative performance was primarily due to the lower production reported by Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. (-51.2%).

At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. was the largest silver producer in Peru accounting for 13.1% share of the country’s total silver production, followed by Volcan Compañía Minera S.A.A. (7.1%) and Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (7.0%).

At the regional level, Pasco was first accounting for 20.5% share of Peru’s total silver production, followed by Áncash (18.1%) and Junín (15.0%).

In the first quarter of 2023, silver production in Peru amounted to 675,003 kg, a decrease of 9.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022 (745,585 kg).
