Top 10 largest gold mines in Australia in Q2 2023 - report

(Kitco News) - Kitco ranked the top ten largest gold mines in Australia based on reported production in Q2 2023.

Newmont’s Boddington mine is the biggest gold operation in Australia with 209 koz of gold produced in Q2 2023. The company said that gold production at Boddington decreased 10% compared to Q2 2022 primarily due to lower ore grade milled and lower mill throughput.

Newcrest’s Cadia operation is second with 152 koz of gold produced in Q2 2023, which is 19% lower than in Q2 2022.

Another Newmont’s Tanami mine sits third. Gold production in Q2 2023 of 126 koz decreased 5% compared to Q2 2022 primarily due to lower mill throughput.

Northern Star’s KCGM operation, which includes the Fimiston open pit (Super Pit), Mt Charlotte underground mine and the Fimiston and Gidji processing plants, is fourth and produced 112 koz of gold in Q2 2023, down 10% compared to Q2 2022.

AngloGold Ashanti’s Tropicana mine is fifth with 106 koz of gold produced in Q2 2023, up 5% from the prior year corresponding period.

The top 10 largest gold operations in Australia produced 1,130 koz of gold in Q2 2023, which is 9% lower than a year ago (Q2 2022: 1,235 koz).
