Tough For Miners At These Gold Prices, Exploration Is Key: Brent Cook
It’s a big mining week and who better to have on Kitco News then famed geologist Brent Cook. He knows the industry inside-out and breaks down the ‘shining’ stars in mining this quarter on this edition of “Kitco News.” Cook says that he doesn’t expect to see much change in the mining sector over the next year or two. He also comments on Newmont and Centerra’s earning results and how he sees the majors set up for the coming quarter. With gold prices getting hit by stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data this week, Cook says there are only a few companies that are actually making money at these prices. On the junior side, he thinks that it is an interesting area to look at but at the same time it is getting ‘tough.’ “There are very few [junior] companies out there now with the technical competence and cash to really advance exploration plays.” However, Cook says well-standing junior companies are the place to be because over the next two years, the majors are going to have to buy something and this is where they will be looking.
