David Nelson, chief strategist with Belpointe Asset Management, stops in to chat about Bitcoin, Freeport McMoRan’s earnings results, as well as CEO Ian Adkerson’s $36 million severance package, and tops it off with insights on the gold market. Nelson told Kitco News that cryptocurrencies are here to stay, noting that JP Morgan has filed a patent for a Bitcoin-style payment system. Nelson also comments on Freeport McMoRan’s 4Q earnings beating the streets expectations but cautions that Indonesia’s new tax export is something to look out for, especially with the company’s enormous Grasberg complex in the middle of it. Nelson also touches on FCX’s CEO Ian Adkerson’s large severance pay and the trend of seeing these types of deals in Fortune 500 companies.
