Kitco News speaks with trading veteran Vince Lanci about high-frequency trading (HFT) and how he thinks this practice affects the gold market. Lanci says that although HFT is not all bad, there are several market participants that use ‘predatory behavior’ to disrupt the marketplace. “You will hear many proponents of HFT [say]…it adds liquidity,” Lanci says. “That’s not true, it is false liquidity.” Lanci adds that the ‘true liquidity providers’ are leaving the business and that’s how HFT can really ruin a market.
