POLITICS (*) Four-times Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has been diagnosed with leukaemia, a source close to the matter said on Thursday. Berlusconi is being treated in intensive care at Milan's San Raffaele Hospital after suffering breathing problems.

TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) (*) A consortium of Italian state lender CDP and Macquarie has asked for a 12-billion-euro loan to Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit as it works on improving its offer for TIM's landline network, Il Messaggero daily reported.
Proxy adviser ISS has recommended that TIM investors vote against the second section of the remuneration policy at the shareholders' meeting on April 20 because of poor disclosure on shares allocated under the Brazilian long-term incentive plan to CEO Pietro Labriola and on one-off bonus and termination payments paid in favour of managers with strategic responsibilities.
ISS has also recommended voting against the topic related to the replacement of Vivendi CEO Arnaud de Puyfontaine on the board because, at the time of the report, the name of the candidate had not been disclosed.
PIRELLI Italian tyre maker said it had postponed its annual shareholders meeting until to June 29 due to government scrutiny of governance agreements involving China's investor Sinochem.
INTESA SANPAOLO Italy's biggest lender said on Wednesday it ended its share buyback programme after it had purchased a stake of around 3,72% of its share capital.

ENI Eni's unit Versalis said on Wednesday it entered exclusive negotiations to buy the part of chemical group Novamont it does not already own. (*) Citigroup has resumed coverage with a "neutral" rating and a target price of 13.5 euros.
(*)IREN The utility has given a mandate to merchant bank Rothschild to find an investor willing to take over up to 49% of its gas distribution network, the La Stampa daily said on Thursday.
The paper added that French insurer AXA , British private equity Arjun and Australian fund Igneo Infrastructure Partners are interested in the deal, which could allow Iren to cash in about 400 million euros.
