Longer-duration Treasury yields, however, fell across the board as shares of First Republic Bank fell after the company reported a more than $100 billion plunge in deposits in the first quarter, increasing fears that Wall Street has not seen the last of the regional banking crisis.
The yield on 10-year Treasury notes was down 6.3 basis points to 3.509%, while the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was down 5.7 basis points to 3.721%.
Bond yields move in the opposite direction of prices.
A closely watched part of the U.S. Treasury yield curve measuring the gap between yields on two- and 10-year Treasury notes , seen as an indicator of economic expectations, was at -63.2 basis points.
The two-year U.S. Treasury yield, which typically moves in step with interest rate expectations, was down 5.1 basis points at 4.139%.
