TOKYO, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Bids for the Bank of Japan's latest offer of five-year loans were triple the amount available, as the central bank tries to contain bond yields. The BOJ said it received 3.264 trillion yen ($25.02 billion)worth of demand for loans totalling 1 trillion yen, with the average bid rate at 0.142%. The lowest bid was 0.110%.

Similar strong demand was seen for the previous offer.

At the previous operation, the BOJ offered 1 trillion yen of 5-year loans, receiving bids worth 3.129 trillion yen with the average rate 0.145%. The lowest bid was 0.110%. The BOJ said last week it will extend five-year loans against collateral to financial institutions, the second time it has made such an offer after ramping up the funds-supply operation this month to defend its yield control policy.
