- UBS Group AG agreed to take over its longtime rival Credit Suisse Group for more than $3 billion, pushed into the biggest banking deal in years by regulators eager to halt a dangerous decline in confidence in the global banking system.


- Top Republicans derided the possible indictment of former U.S. President Donald Trump over payoffs to a porn star as politically motivated, while Democrats warned that the former president's social-media exhortations were irresponsible and risked new violence akin to the Capitol riot.


- U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren on Sunday called for an independent investigation into the recent failures of two U.S. regional banks, Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank .
