ECONOMY Italian bank loans to families and firms rose by 0.5% in March from the year before, slowing from a 1% increase in February due to interest rate hikes by the European Central Bank, the country's banking association ABI said on Tuesday. Italy's Treasury said on Tuesday it would sell up to 5 billion euros in bonds at an auction on April 21. Bank of Italy releases February data on foreign investors holdings of Italian government bonds.
COMPANIES BANKS The European Union on Tuesday proposed making it harder for states to pour billions of euros of aid into an ailing bank, as Italy did with Monte dei Paschi di Siena six years ago.

TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) The Italian phone group said late on Tuesday it had received two new non-binding offers from the rival groups seeking to buy its landline grid and submarine cable unit Sparkle. TIM said its board will review the bids, on which it gave no details, on May 4. Two sources close to the matter said Italian state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and Macquarie are offering 19.3 billion euros, and another source said rival KKR is offering 21 billion euros, including 2 billion euros from an earnout mechanism.
MEDIAFOREUROPE (MFE) (*) Italy's largest commercial broadcaster targets higher net and operating profits this year, despite stagnating advertising revenues, after net profit plunged 42% last year, the company said on Wednesday.

(*) STELLANTIS Industry-wide car sales in the European Union (EU) rose 28.8% in March to more than one million units, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reported on Wednesday. Last month, Stellantis' car sales in the EU rose 28.7%, with a market share of 19.9%.
SAIPEM (*) The Italian energy services group said on Wednesday it had been awarded a two-year contract extension by Eni for the use of the Santorini drillship. The contract extension is worth approximately $280 million.

BRUNELLO CUCINELLI Sales at the Italian luxury group rose 33% at constant exchange rates in the first quarter, driven by strong growth in the Americas and a rebound in Asia.
