Rare earth access is the European Union’s priority at China summit
European Union leaders will use a summit with China next month to seek better access to Chinese rare earths and critical minerals, four sources familiar with the plans said, as the two sides tackle an array of tariff-related issues.For years, China has had a near monopoly on rare earth production. It increased its export controls on the minerals, in demand from automakers, the defence industry and producers of renewable energy, following the tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump on April 2.

Peru copper output up nearly 8% in April
Copper output in Peru, the world’s third-largest producer of the red metal, rose 7.91% year-on-year in April to 220,261 metric tons, the Energy and Mines Ministry said on Wednesday.The April increase was mainly due to stronger output from Southern Copper, whose output was up 2.8% year-on-year, and MMG Ltd’s Las Bambas, which surged 74.5%, the ministry said.Peru’s copper production is expected to rise slightly this year to around 2.8 million tons, Energy and Mines Minister Jorge Montero said in early June.(By Marco Aquino; Editing by Brendan O’Boyle)

Future low-carbon materials projects need $1.6 trillion in funding, report says
Some $250 billion of financing has been allocated to produce low-carbon materials in heavy emitting sectors such as chemicals, fuels and metals, but future low-carbon materials projects will need more than five times the level of current funding, a report said on Thursday.Newly industrialized countries such as Indonesia and Morocco have already secured a fifth of the $250 billion investment in clean industrial plants so far, the report by the Mission Possible Partnership said.
