POLITICS Italy's government will announce a plan focused on energy cooperation with Africa in October, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday during a visit to Ethiopia. Italy must be increasingly cautious in its trade ties with China, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti was quoted as saying on Friday in reference to Rome's partnership in Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative project. COMPANIES (*) ENEL The Covalis Capital hedge fund said on Monday it had presented an alternative list of candidates for Enel's board of directors, in opposition to that presented last week by the Italian government. In a statement, Covalis said that the system that led to the government's nominations "undermines investor confidence, erodes value and is out of line with international standards of best practice in shareholder democracy."
(*) UNICREDIT , BANCO BPM Fabrizio Palenzona, Chairman of Italian bad loans specialist Prelios, is running for the chairmanship of Fondazione CRT, one of the shareholders of UniCredit and Banco BPM, against outgoing chairman Giovanni Quaglia, several Italian newspapers said on Monday.
Fondazione CRT is expected to elect its new chair on Tuesday.
TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) (*) The Italian phone group expects to receive on Tuesday improved offers for its landline grid from rival suitors Cassa Depositi and Prestiti (CDP) plus Macquarie , and US fund KKR but they will still be below what TIM's top investor Vivendi is seeking, La Stampa daily said on Tuesday.
The offers are expected to be in the region of 22 billion euros, while Vivendi wants 31 billion euros, La Stampa said.
TIM CEO Pietro Labriola in a letter to Saturday's financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore said "we can't procrastinate anymore" and called for "courageous" decisions, as the company weighs bids for the landline grid.

SAIPEM An appeals court in Algiers has acquitted Saipem in a case relating to a tender in 2008 related to the 'Rhourde Nouss QH' project. The company said in a statement that as a result of the verdict the court cancelled the fines and rejected the claims for compensation previously imposed.
(*) IPO, ITALIAN DESIGN BRANDS Italian Design Brands, a hub of high-quality Italian furniture and design companies, said on Monday it plans to list on Euronext Milan, with an IPO expected by early May.
LAZIO Maurizio Sarri's team cemented its second place in Serie A with a 3-0 win over Spezia on Friday, extending the club's unbeaten run to eight league games. (*) Lazio's star forward Ciro Immobile is under observation in hospital after he fractured his rib and hurt his back in a car crash in Rome, the Serie A club said on Sunday.
