JOHANNESBURG, May 10 (Reuters) - The following economic events, equity and currency market moves may affect South African markets on Wednesday.


ECONOMIC EVENTS Central bank governor Kganyago speaks on challenges facing global economy from 0900 GMT


SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS The South African rand and stocks fell on Tuesday as the dollar rose ahead of closely watched U.S. inflation data due this week. GLOBAL MARKETS Stocks were struggling to advance in Asia and the dollar was firm on Wednesday ahead of U.S. consumer price data that could damage hopes for interest rate cuts later this year if inflation fails to show much of a decline. WALL STREET U.S. stock indexes closed lower on Tuesday as investors grew more cautious ahead of a U.S. consumer price index report and a meeting between U.S. political leaders to discuss the debt ceiling. GOLD Gold prices eased into a tight range on Wednesday as traders braced for key U.S inflation data due later in the day, which could impact the Federal Reserve's policy stance.
