Jan 11 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened lower on Thursday as investors assessed hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation data that tempered expectations of an early rate cut.

At 9:32 a.m. ET (14:32 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index (.GSPTSE) was down 4.51 points, or 0.02%, at 20,984.91.
