Investors should overweight the U.S. - Feneck
The return of Donald Trump to the White House in the November U.S. presidential election would do wonders for mining and metals, John Feneck, Founder & CEO of The Feneck Commodities Report, told Kitco Mining’s Digging Deep program. Feneck said Trump is becoming an ‘unstoppable force’ following a strong show in the first presidential debate. During Trump’s first term, he reversed various pieces of legislation put in place by his predecessor Barrack Obama, particularly regarding natural resource development, with Feneck thinking a repeat could happen. “Trump talks about more job growth. How do you do that? You get things moving. Alaska’s been a nightmare [for mine developers],” he said, referring to efforts by the US Environmental Protection Agency to block the development of the permitted Ambler road that would service Trilogy Metals’ (NYSE-A: TMQ) Artic project and denying Northern Dynasty Minerals (NYSE-A:NAK) a chance to enter the permitting process for its Pebble project. Feneck said the gold and copper prices have remained firm despite recent headwinds, and appear to be set to move higher again. “We're just trying to load up on names that have potential, that are trading at ridiculous valuations on a three or five year basis,” he said. Feneck and Kitco anchor Paul Harris also discussed Peru restarting development at Southern Copper’s (NYSE:SCCO) US$1.4 billion Tia Maria project, the challenges facing Panama’s new president, Jose Raul Mulino and Paladin Energy’s (ASX:PDN) acquisition of Fission Uranium (TSX:FCU) for C$1.14 billion.
