Natalie Brunell on the U.S. shutdown, gold at record highs, and Bitcoin adoption

Emmy-award winning journalist and Coin Stories host Natalie Brunell says the U.S. fiscal system is “broken,” and that investors are turning to hard assets like gold and Bitcoin as confidence in government spending erodes. Speaking with Kitco News’ Jeremy Szafron, she said, “Washington has a spending problem,” adding that “the debt doom loop” is fueling demand for alternative stores of value. Brunell pointed to gold’s surge to record highs near $3,900 an ounce and Bitcoin’s rally past $117,000, as both reflect a shift away from fiat dependence. She highlighted the IRS’s new tax guidance allowing corporate Bitcoin adoption and said the move “opens the floodgates for institutional demand.” Brunell added that government shutdowns and expanding deficits are “accelerating the construction of a parallel financial system” where digital assets and commodities play a central role.
