Ecclestone on gold’s correction, the dollar’s strain, and Trump’s mining legacy

Christopher Ecclestone, Principal and Mining Strategist at Hallgarten + Company, joins Kitco Mining’s Digging Deep as gold falls more than US$400 per ounce from record highs. Ecclestone, who warned of a correction earlier this month, says the drop reflects the natural ebb of overheated markets. “What goes up must come down,” he said, adding that easing geopolitical tensions have removed one of gold’s key supports. He also points to deeper structural shifts, warning that the U.S. dollar’s “primacy is being eroded” and that a return to low interest rates could “let the genie of inflation out of the box.” On policy, Ecclestone credits Trump with reviving U.S. mining but cautions that critical minerals funding has gone too far, creating “too much of everything” across lithium and rare earths.
