Lion Rock Resources (TSXV: ROAR, OTCQB: LRRIF) has received state approval for 78 drill pads at its Volney project in South Dakota’s historic Black Hills, with drilling set to begin within weeks. The company is testing a “two-for-one” thesis — high-grade, shear-hosted gold at surface with lithium-bearing pegmatites directly beneath. Chief Geologist Dr. Jeff Hrncir describes the target as part of a potential “missing halo” around the legendary Homestake Mine, which produced more than 40 million ounces of gold. “These big Precambrian, what we call origin gold deposits, they always form in clusters,” Hrncir said. “Currently the Black Hills are missing this halo.” Surface work has already delivered compelling results, including chip samples grading up to 14.0 g/t gold, float samples up to 189.5 g/t, and lithium values as high as 5.3% Li₂O. With drilling fully funded and permitted on private land, Lion Rock is positioning Volney as a rare gold–lithium system with strategic critical minerals potential and streamlined development pathways.
