Jacques Bonneau, author of The Art of Investing in Junior Mining, spoke with Kitco Mining at Xplor 2025 in Montreal about how investors can navigate the high-risk, high-reward world of junior exploration companies. Drawing on his 40-year career in geology, finance, and corporate leadership, Bonneau shared his six “golden rules” for timing the mining cycle and managing risk. He discussed the importance of trading discipline, saying investors must understand that mining is a cyclical business and that “you have to learn how to trade.” Bonneau noted that only a fraction of exploration companies merit serious attention, adding that “two companies out of ten will make 80 percent of your profit.” He said that at gold prices between $3,500 and $4,000 per ounce, “everybody is making money,” creating an ideal environment for both miners and investors.
