Copper market tightens as solaris advances world-class Warintza project
Solaris Resources President and CEO Matthew Rowlinson says the company’s new pre-feasibility study confirms Warintza as a large-scale, long-life copper project with strong tier one credentials. Speaking with Kitco Mining at the 2025 NBF CEO Mining Conference in London, he outlined average annual production of 240,000 tons of copper equivalent for the first 15 years, C1 cash costs of $1.07 per pound, an after-tax NPV of $4.6 billion, and a 26 percent IRR. He described Warintza as a “multi-generational asset” with 5.8 billion tons of resource, a 50-year mine life, near-surface mineralisation, and a 0.53:1 strip ratio that places the project at the top end of global cost curves. Rowlinson said permitting will advance in two phases, starting with a 22-year reserve life tied to initial tailings capacity, with additional tailings locations identified to support full development of the resource. Solaris aims to be fully permitted by the end of 2026, complete a feasibility study in early 2027, and move toward a three-year build period. He added that the study “opens a corridor” for strategic interest, and that Solaris remains focused on advancing Warintza while remaining receptive to opportunities that maximize shareholder value.
