Why gold is running now while Bitcoin waits | Mark Moss

Gold has surged to new highs while Bitcoin has pulled back, and Mark Moss says the divergence is not a contradiction, but a signal. Speaking with Kitco News at VRIC 2026 in Vancouver, Moss, partner at the Bitcoin Opportunity Fund, argued that gold’s move cannot be explained by inflation or currency debasement alone. He noted that “from 2020 to 2024, the gold price didn’t go anywhere at all,” despite unprecedented money creation, adding that if debasement were the driver, gold should have moved years earlier. Moss said the current rally reflects a deeper breakdown in global trust, triggered by rising geopolitical tension and the weaponization of financial systems. He pointed to central banks accumulating gold while individuals increasingly turn to Bitcoin, arguing that each asset serves a different role in a fractured monetary landscape. Moss also warned that yield-bearing stablecoins threaten the traditional banking model, saying banks “don’t want stablecoins that can pay a yield,” as control over deposits and credit begins to erode.
