“The physical market is taking over the paper market” | Nomi Prins
Dr. Nomi Prins says the shift toward hard assets is being driven by structural forces, not short-term market dynamics, as confidence in debt markets and financial institutions continues to erode. Speaking with Kitco News at VRIC 2026, the geo-macro economist and Prinsights Global founder said the global system is entering “the beginning of a major super cycle and commodities,” shaped by rising debt stress, institutional friction, and supply constraints that cannot be resolved quickly. Prins pointed to central banks reducing reliance on sovereign debt while prioritizing gold, alongside growing institutional participation in physically backed markets. She argued that metals such as silver, copper, and platinum face long development timelines that limit supply responsiveness, reinforcing the role of hard assets during periods of uncertainty. While volatility and profit-taking remain part of the cycle, Prins said the underlying drivers supporting hard assets and select mining equities remain intact as capital gravitates toward what is real and durable.
