Fed insider on gold volatility & the return of the "bankruptcy cycle"
Gold and silver experienced sharp volatility as gold swung nearly $500 in a single session, raising questions about whether the move signaled a market breakdown or a structural reset. Speaking with Kitco News, Danielle DiMartino Booth, CEO and Chief Strategist of QI Research, said the pullback looks less like a top and more like a liquidity-driven event as leverage was cleared from the system. She noted that markets moving parabolically often require pauses, particularly when margin calls emerge across multiple asset classes. Booth said the turbulence is unfolding alongside renewed stress in credit markets, pointing to what she described as a resumption of the bankruptcy cycle and growing risks within private credit. She also pushed back on the Federal Reserve’s stabilizing narrative, arguing Chair Jerome Powell is leaning too heavily on the unemployment rate while underlying financial conditions weaken. Booth said rising layoffs and tightening credit conditions suggest risks are building beneath the surface, reinforcing the need for caution as volatility spreads across markets.
