Why rising debt is forcing a global repricing of gold | Ronald-Peter Stöferle
Ronald-Peter Stöferle, managing partner at Incrementum AG and co-author of the In Gold We Trust report, says the sharp move in precious metals reflects a structural bull market rather than speculative excess. Speaking with Kitco Mining at the VRIC 2026, Stöferle said, “We’re in a bull market. We’re not in a bubble yet,” pointing to strong momentum, persistent buying on pullbacks, and deep-pocketed demand across gold and silver. While he acknowledged corrections are likely, he argued they would be part of a broader repricing rather than a cycle peak. Stöferle highlighted central bank demand as a foundational driver, noting that central banks have been buying roughly “1,000 tons of gold every year” since 2022. He framed the current environment as a monetary revaluation tied to rising debt, sticky inflation, and declining confidence in traditional fixed income. Within mining equities, Stöferle said large producers are in their strongest financial position in years, while junior miners have yet to fully participate, setting the stage for a potential catch-up phase as capital rotates further into the sector.
