54 Moz discovery anchors Kootenay’s silver growth | Jim McDonald
Kootenay Silver (TSXV: KTN; OTCQX: KOOYF) President and CEO Jim McDonald says the silver bull market is exposing a growing valuation gap across the sector and creating new opportunities for developers with scale. Speaking with Kitco Mining’s Investment Trends, McDonald said Kootenay’s strategy is to de-risk its assets far enough to maximize value and optionality, noting, “we aim to be a seller,” while still advancing projects to strengthen economics and reduce risk. McDonald highlighted progress at the Columba Project in Chihuahua, Mexico, where Kootenay delivered a maiden inferred resource of 54 Moz silver grading 284 g/t and continues to drill to expand wide, high-grade zones. He said vein thickness is a key driver of project economics, adding, “The better the width, the lower your cost.” The interview also covered Kootenay’s broader pipeline of more than 300 Moz of silver equivalent across four deposits and the company’s decision to advance La Cigarra toward a PEA expected in Q2 2026, a step that could mark its transition from explorer to developer as interest builds across the silver sector.
